Food safety, allergies and medical conditions
Salvie is a kitchen organiser. It is not a food-safety authority, a doctor, or a
dietitian. You, and only you, are responsible for deciding what is safe for you
to eat — including if you have a food allergy, an intolerance, diabetes, or any other
condition managed through diet. Nothing in the app changes that.
Expiry dates are estimates, not guarantees. Salvie estimates how long food
lasts from its type and storage location, or reads a date from a receipt. Those estimates
take no account of how the food was actually handled, transported, stored, opened, or how
warm your kitchen runs. The date printed on the packaging always takes
precedence, and food can spoil well before any date Salvie shows. Never rely on the
app to decide whether something is still safe to eat. If in doubt, throw it out.
Allergens, intolerances and diabetes. Dietary flags such as vegan,
vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free, and any nutritional or carbohydrate figures shown for
a recipe, are derived automatically from third-party recipe data and ingredient-name
matching — not from laboratory analysis, not from a dietitian, and not from you. This process
can be incomplete or simply wrong. It has no way of knowing about cross-contamination, "may
contain" warnings, ingredient substitutions, or how a dish was actually prepared, and
recipe-level nutritional estimates are not suitable for insulin dosing or any other medical
decision.
If you have a food allergy, an intolerance, diabetes, or manage any other condition
through diet, you must not rely on Salvie's dietary flags, ingredient matching, or
nutritional estimates to decide what is safe for you to eat. Always read the
ingredient list and nutrition label on the actual product in front of you, check the full
recipe at its original source before you cook it, and consult a qualified healthcare
professional about your own dietary needs. This applies every time, including to a recipe or
item Salvie has shown you before — ingredients, suppliers and formulations change without
notice to us.
We are not liable. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Salvia Code Labs
accepts no responsibility and no liability for any illness, allergic reaction, adverse health
event, or other harm arising from food you identified, tracked, selected, or prepared using
Salvie — including where the cause was an inaccurate expiry estimate, an incorrect dietary
flag, or a missing or wrong allergen match, and regardless of whether the underlying data
came from Salvie's own processing, from a third-party recipe publisher, or from an AI model.
This is in addition to, and does not limit, the general limitation of liability in
Section 13.
Cooking safely is your responsibility. You are responsible for handling,
storing and cooking food safely — including cooking temperatures, hygiene, and the safe use
of kitchen equipment.
